New EL MAC mural in Barcelona, Spain

New EL MAC mural in Barcelona, Spain:

Here are shots of a mural I painted at the Montana paint factory just outside Barcelona, Spain. I've used the paint produced there for years and I had always imagined the place to be located in some harsh industrial wasteland. It is in fact surrounded by mountains and forests, just north of the famous Montserrat abbey and mountain range. This contrast between something so industrial and urban, and an environment so peaceful and natural seemed like a good setting for what I painted. I had access to hundreds of colors but decided to limit my color palette to just black, white and grey (and leave the full spectrum to the classic Os Gemeos mural across the way). Thanks to Lacheln for modeling for this, thanks to Ari and Kim for ground support, Jorge y Javier de Avant-Garde Urbano, y gracias a Jordi, Albert y todos los de MTN por hacer posible este mural.

Simon and Kirby Crime comic anthology: exclusive Boing Boing excerpt

Simon and Kirby Crime comic anthology: exclusive Boing Boing excerpt:

Titan Books has just released a new volume in their The Simon and Kirby Library. This one is called Crime. They've kindly given us permission to run a complete story, which you may read after the jump. This one is about Guy Fawkes, the chap who almost succeeded in blowing up King James and England's Parliament in 1605.

S&Kcrime 1 The creators of Captain America and the Boy Commandos produced some of the hardest-hitting crime comics of the 1950s.

Often featuring real-world criminals like Ma Barker, Al Capone, and Pretty Boy Floyd, and true-to-life events like the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, these adventures were torn from post-prohibition headlines. Explosive enough to draw the attention of the congressional committee on juvenile delinquency, they remain action-packed for today's graphic novel audience.

These are the best of the Simon and Kirby Crime comics, fully restored and collected for the first time.

Planet of the Apes painting by Jason Edmiston

Planet of the Apes painting by Jason Edmiston: 201111011453
I'm old school when it comes to Planet of the Apes. If they aren't wearing tunics or padded vests, I'm not interested. That's why this painting, entitled "Trophies" -- which depicts a trio of proud gorilla hunters posing over a pile of Boing Boing comment trolls -- is a winner in my book. This masterpiece is by Jason Edmiston. See more of Jason's work here.

Bollywood superhero flick Ra.One is like Tron with dance numbers and crotch punches [Video]

Bollywood superhero flick Ra.One is like Tron with dance numbers and crotch punches [Video]:
Well, that's not entirely true. Calling the new 3D Hindi superhero flick Ra.One the Bollywood Tron or Iron Man would be a bit of a misnomer. The most apt parallel for Ra.One would be Automan, that swiftly cancelled 1983 cop show about a crime-fighting hologram. And like Automan, Ra.One is shitstorm preposterous in all the right ways. What Should I Always Buy Generic? [Ask Lifehacker]

What Should I Always Buy Generic? [Ask Lifehacker]:
Dear Lifehacker,
Your article on brand loyalty got me thinking: I spend a lot of money on brand name stuff all the time, with no real reason behind it. I'd like to save some money and buy generic brands, but I'm not sure which items I'll actually lose quality on. Are there any products I should just always buy generic? More »
