Allison Torneros: Streams of Subconsciousness:
Born in 1985 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Allison Torneros started drawing at the age of two. Her early passion for art, coupled with her experience growing up in Silicon Valley, led her to pursue both digital and traditional avenues at a young age. At 11 years old she designed her first website, and began exhibiting her artwork in galleries only months after graduating high school. Torneros graduated from UCLA in 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Design/Media Arts and currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
Taking a reactive approach to the creative process, Torneros allows her paintings to do the ‘talking’: by throwing paint in an unpredictable manner, leaving it to dry overnight, then interpreting the random composition. Working on multiple pieces simultaneously, Torneros superimposes images implied by the paint. Her compositions are created through a variety of media: acrylic, oil, spraypaint, graphite, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Online social media, people, current events, and literature are noted as some of her biggest sources of inspiration. Torneros’ rough style and use of bold texture and rhythm are influenced by her interest in street art and animation. She balances her time between producing art and running CircleDot, her Downtown LA graphic design firm whose client roster includes an interesting mix of Fortune 500 companies, fashion and entertainment brands, as well as fun business start-ups.
